A love of airplanes and going to airshows led to a love of photography at a very age and at 16, tired of begging to borrow his uncles camera, Kier Smith traded his mountain bike for his first camera ( a Minolta X-700 if you must know ), then started saving up for a “medium format” camera, his much loved Yashica 124-G. After years of working in camera stores, photo labs (remember them?) and free lance photography work Kier launched Firstlight Photography in 2002 and hasn’t looked back since.
From Sports photography to wedding photography Kier has over 30 years of experience with a camera and since officially adding wedding photography to the list of services Firstlight Photography offers he has shot over 250 weddings while continuing to do event photography, family portraits, boudoir / “pin-up” sessions as well as maternity photos.
It is a love people and capturing them in their environments that drives Kier’s love of photograph. He knows that for many people having a photo taken is just about as appealing as a trip to the dentist, but he has the uncanny ability to put people at ease in front of the camera.
When Kier isn’t out on a photo shoot you can find him in front of his grill, watching movies - a love of “Strange Brew & Caddyshack” (which should be slightly embarrassing, but he owns it), going to an airshow or camping & hiking with his wife and/or his trusty dog Trixie.

Planning a wedding takes a village. Your once busy schedule is now really crowded. We completely understand and that is why our process is easy.
We meet over coffee/tea and review your wedding ideas. We quickly draft a wedding schedule that helps us design a perfect-fit package. Several weeks before your wedding we touch base and update the wedding schedule {a great tool for attendants, family and vendors}. If you have opted to work with a planner, we will coordinate the details with him/her and we are happy to coordinate with your other wedding professionals too.
And that village we spoke of earlier? We are here to help you with any questions or help you may need along the way. Since we are by your side on your big day, we are the closest at hand to pin on a boutonnière, straighten a tie, give directions or to fix a bouquet.
