21st In Germantown is ready to bring a unique experience to everyone who walks through our historic doors. Our live music venue supports our growing music community. Our chef is creating new and exciting recipes for our restaurant. Walking into this 9,000 sq. ft. establishment is like stepping back in time, with historic artifacts carefully placed throughout. From the crystal chandelier in the foyer, and the old ticket window, you are instantly transported back to the days of yore, yet with all the modern amenities of today. The eye catching stained concrete floors are designed to mimic the colors generated in charring oak barrels for bourbon. Guests can seat themselves in the Gatsby Room with its copper ceiling, hanging light fixtures made from bourbon barrel hoops, and wall sconces with flickering flames inside. Our current location was built in 1887 at Shelby and the northeast corner of Stonewall streets. The building housed Zeigler's Saloon and Grocery and the Zeigler family lived on the premises. Frank Zeigler was born in Louisville and was considered a prominent business man in the community. Zeigler held the position of Vice President of Falls City Brewing Company and had business interests in the Grocer's Baking Company and the Merchants Ice and Cold Storage Company. The business remained open, even through Prohibition. The building had the most famous dance floor in Louisville, along with the Fontaine Ferry Park Dance Floor. In its heyday, the bar housed an antique clock, an old gas pump, a carousel horse and a wooden Indian.
