The Lake Cunningham redevelopment project began in 2017. Donors and community members recognized that the lake was an asset that was being underutilized and had the potential to be a significant development for the community. To date, over 40 donors have philanthropically contributed a total of 26M towards the improvements at the lake. The Lake Cunningham Development Trust (LCDT) is a 501c3 organization whose team operates, maintains, activates, and fundraises for the park. In 2021, the LCDT went into a third-party agreement with the landowners – the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the City of Omaha, who previously maintained and operated the park. LCDT’s staff began a strategic planning process and as a part of this process, the Mission, Vision, Values, and Beliefs for the lake were clearly restated to fit the current plan and goals. Lake Cunningham has a refreshed brand and a marketing plan to create excitement and attract visitors to the C! The C is primarily focused on giving underserved youth an unforgettable nature experience, but also provides the community with a safe, family-friendly, activated park that anyone can enjoy.
